Poetry, Prosecco, Pajamas......and CAKE?

Cake doesn't begin with a P however it did start the evening.  17 women gathered together to share poetry, prosecco and pajamas making a perfect sleepover!  (and a wonderful night)  We began with cake; as the host stated:  "Life is short, we should start with dessert".

Not just one cake, but two!

Only these weren't sweet cakes, they were appetizer cakes, a fun twist to an old favorite.
One was vegetarian - layers of boiled egg, cucumber, radishes, red onion, capers and dill. The other smoked salmon, dill, cucumbers, radishes, red onion and capers.  All topped with a cream cheese/sour cream frosting...YUM!
Before the first course was over, the cake was devoured and we were on to more prosecco.  What a delicious and fun evening!!
Ladies in PJ's enjoying bubbles, conversation and a great house!

The vision for this cake creation has been in my thoughts for about three months.  In July we spent a week on the Oregon coast with our dear friends including their soon to be two year old adorable boy.  He was all about the fish.  Fish in the ocean, fish at the aquarium, fish in the souvenir shops, fishy, fishy fishy.  The cake was vanilla with my stand-by favorite buttercream frosting.  All of the embellishments were edible, that is if you like sugar candy!  Super fun cake to make and share.  The two year old's comment? "Whoa...."  "Fishy"

I wish when I had turned 21 I was as composed as the young young lady is!       In Boise on Spring Break from Cal Poly she came to celebrate with her elders.  Not only is she beautiful but she's smart!  One of three students a warded the Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) in STEM Undergraduate Research Scholarship for Summer 2018.    It was a true honor to create this cake for her to celebrate her coming of age party.   Happy Birthday Miranda!!

This cake was a challenge.  I typically make my cakes the day OF the party.  I know they will be fresh, the decorations will be "just so" and if they aren't I can tweak them at the party.....not the case with this one.  I would not be there AND it had to be done a day and a half before the event.....the pressure!  This is exactly why I don't sell cakes for money, though I heard this one was a success even disguised as a gluten free chocolate delight!
