Sprinkles

Just HOW does one cover an entire cake in sprinkles without getting them everywhere ??  True, there are cake gadgets that allow you to tilt the cake at a severe angle while decorating it but I am not a gadget person so I don't own one of those.  I have also read about elaborate preparations of partially freezing the cake so it is easier to handle while turning it on it's side to roll the desired section through the sprinkles but that sounds like a COMPLETE disaster waiting to happen.  Finally after reading through quite a few solutions I found one that worked like a charm!  You simply spray a strip of wax paper with non-stick cooking spray (I used coconut oil), sprinkle your sprinkles onto that and then use the wax paper as a transfer sheet, pressing it lightly into the side of the cake.  The sprinkles release from the wax paper onto the frosted cake.  It was easy and resulted in very few sprinkles in places I didn't want them.  (Credit goes to an...

Baby Cakes

Part of my excuse for not posting is due to Bosworth House Rule #1.  The oven does not come on when it is extremely hot outside.  By "extremely hot" I think we mean over 80.....regardless , with July temperatures over 100 for many days in a row I have to admit I don't feel much like turning on the oven let alone baking all day long.  HOWEVER when one goes to Michigan to another one's kitchen and it is a high of 70 all rules are off, though this household recently adopted Bosworth House Rule #2, no glitter, better characterized as "a glitter free zone".  So perhaps if it had been 90 degrees with 80% humidity I would have introduced another house rule to Chez Bremer.  This sweet little cake was made for a co-workers baby shower.  She had twins, she deserved cake!

Statute of Limitations....?

Does something exist like this for a published recipe?  I hope not and if it does then I hope someone out there policing such things does not call me out.  When I first began this blog someone asked me if I planned to post recipes .  I had to think about that for awhile but ultimately I decided no, I wouldn't post actual recipes.  If you are determined enough (and know me well enough) I will share any recipe with you,  should you simply ask. {{WARNING:  Side tangent}}  In fact I will offer to bake a cake with (or for) you.  Dang!! I wish I had photos from every cake I have ever created.  Some years ago, an acquaintance wanted a special cake for a friend of hers whom I didn't know and was celebrating a landmark birthday.  The acquaintance was referred to me as someone who might be able to help.  Long story short, the acquaintance showed up at my house at 8:30 am with her three year old child to bake an extraordinary birthday cake. ...
