Sprinkles

Just HOW does one cover an entire cake in sprinkles without getting them everywhere??  True, there are cake gadgets that allow you to tilt the cake at a severe angle while decorating it but I am not a gadget person so I don't own one of those.  I have also read about elaborate preparations of partially freezing the cake so it is easier to handle while turning it on it's side to roll the desired section through the sprinkles but that sounds like a COMPLETE disaster waiting to happen.  Finally after reading through quite a few solutions I found one that worked like a charm!  You simply spray a strip of wax paper with non-stick cooking spray (I used coconut oil), sprinkle your sprinkles onto that and then use the wax paper as a transfer sheet, pressing it lightly into the side of the cake.  The sprinkles release from the wax paper onto the frosted cake.  It was easy and resulted in very few sprinkles in places I didn't want them.  (Credit goes to an Internet source I have long lost but thank you www!)

  1. Whoa! I got to see and enjoy this cake and never once thought about how difficult that would have been! Nathan definitely appreciated the effort. He was very impressed (and excited) by how many sprinkles there were. And it was delicious as always. :)

Schooled

The vision for this cake creation has been in my thoughts for about three months.  In July we spent a week on the Oregon coast with our dear friends including their soon to be two year old adorable boy.  He was all about the fish.  Fish in the ocean, fish at the aquarium, fish in the souvenir shops, fishy, fishy fishy.  The cake was vanilla with my stand-by favorite buttercream frosting.  All of the embellishments were edible, that is if you like sugar candy!  Super fun cake to make and share.  The two year old's comment? "Whoa...."  "Fishy"

I wish when I had turned 21 I was as composed as the young young lady is!       In Boise on Spring Break from Cal Poly she came to celebrate with her elders.  Not only is she beautiful but she's smart!  One of three students a warded the Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) in STEM Undergraduate Research Scholarship for Summer 2018.    It was a true honor to create this cake for her to celebrate her coming of age party.   Happy Birthday Miranda!!

From Miss to Mrs.

This cake was a challenge.  I typically make my cakes the day OF the party.  I know they will be fresh, the decorations will be "just so" and if they aren't I can tweak them at the party.....not the case with this one.  I would not be there AND it had to be done a day and a half before the event.....the pressure!  This is exactly why I don't sell cakes for money, though I heard this one was a success even disguised as a gluten free chocolate delight!
